Just finished episode 8 of Scott Pilgrim and that was the worst adaptation of all time, you know on account that it wasn’t an adaptation at all. Let’s be honest, as great as the Scott Pilgrim comic series and movie were, they were undeniably written in the 00’s, and some jokes didn’t age very well, and if this show had been a 1:1 with the comics it would have been great but I don’t know if it would have been unforgettable, but what we got instead? Not only will I never shut up about it, I could watch 2, maybe 3 more seasons of it. This kind of concept, where something changes at the start of a popular story and everything after that is completely different, shouldn’t be limited to AO3 fanfiction and Marvel’s What If comic one-shots, maybe this is how a horse gets beaten but I want to see more shows like this. 10/10, no notes, can’t wait for next season.

Also, a week ago, when I thought this was going to be a 1:1 with the comics, my AMV idea for this was going to be Skillet’s Feel Invincible, but I don’t think that one is gonna work anymore and I’m out of ideas 😑. If anyone knows a good song that would go well with this season, I’m all ears.

Staged 1 works well enough on its own but the second season is really essential as a companion piece upping the emotional ante (which is exactly how I feel about Good Omens 1 & 2 lol)

It ends on that meta moment between David and Georgia which I can only assume is to set up for the third season although I dunno if that was planned at the time as well. It’s ambiguous but not distracting if they didn’t make another one

tl; dr: Staged 2 is a unique and excellent addition to Staged 1. The added meta textual layer of the other celebrities breaking down their relationship based on Staged 1 allows for a lot of “hiding behind my hands so embarrassed” moments, but also by pitting them against each other, it reveals their actual love for each other through the bickering. Season 1 on its own is a nice vignette of its time but season 2 with it adds a tension and intimacy that really takes both over the top

Kinda dreading watching Staged 3 since it seems like people overwhelmingly like it less than the other two because of the loss of the Zoom format and constant arguing, but I’m already in this far deep so I’ll stick the landing

Movie Review 105 - 03/03/17

The World's End

Hi, welcome to Richard’s Reviews.

Today's review is The World's End. This title having two meanings. One the main characters are trying to make it to this pub named The World's End, and at the same time the world is ending with them. Explanation now. Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost reunite in this comedy about being kings of the world when they had no responsibilities. Oh, youth. He had a rag tag team of buddies he hung with. This includes Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan. Rosamund Pike plays a pretty big role in the movie as she is the driver that saves them. All this will make some sense. So it goes that Peg's character, in his youth, was a rebel with dreams. Him and his friends had set out to do the walk to The World's End. A bar hopping street, that ends at a pub with that name. However, they did not complete it. Jumpe to current state, he is feeling down and out. He decides to gets the gang back together many years later. Only he finds all his friends are married and hunkered down by family and responsibilities. They attempt to do the walk again, but this time there are more serious hurddles. The town seems to be taken over by aliens in the form of body snatchers. At this point it gets very sci/fi. They run into Pike, whe ends up driving them around in the get away car. What happens to them, and how does it end? Well you gotta watch it.

The front cover a slip cover of the old gang in their current old state. Simon brandishing a beer, and explosions in the background near a sign of The World's End. The cover off is the same image. Inside is the blu ray, dvd, and digital. The back is a small descripion of the movie, and a picture of Peg and Frost.

This movie is funny. Maybe predictable once you understand that there are aliens and body snatchers. I enjoy the comedy of Peg and Frost, this movie is no exception. It is off the wall. I can't really say I can relate since I did not have aspirations like that. Drinking with my buddies is always controlled, and safe. This movie does boast a lot of drinking. It is interesting that they take it into a sci/fi world half way into the story. Some wild twist to keep you watching. The obsession to complete their goal is a bit dumb, but then his character is not exactly smart. It is just a funny adventure.

Rating - 3.5 Stars out of 5

Similar to his other movies, it always has some crazy twist. This is no exception to Peg's formula. The movie is a small adventure that turns big. Not one of my favorites, but a good watch if you are wanting to laugh then turn sci/fi. This movie may be for you.
